Waddle with the Golden Gate Basset Hound Rescue this Saturday!

Please join us for this Parade in Novato on the 4th of July! Over 100 basset hounds will walk with their people-helping to raise funds for this great cause, followed by a picnic, raffle, auction & lots of FUN!!

ALL Basset Hounds are welcome, you don’t need to be a GGBR alum!

Raffle prizes include a fantastic Corvette, a trip for two to The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas, including hotel and airfare for 3 days/2 nights, and more!!

Waddle Registration will be open from 8-9:30am, with the parade starting at 10am. Even if you register in advance, you need to visit the registration table to collect your Goodie Bags, deliver your pledges, and collect your T-Shirts if you either prepaid or want to buy one on the day.

Advance Registration: $10 for one hound and $15 for two or more hounds from the same household. They will also be selling lunches for $5 at the baseball field!

Local Pugs Win Film Contest!

Bay Area pugs took first and third place honors in a contest sponsored by the new film, Valentino The Last Emperor! The supporting stars of the new film will play the legendary designer Valentino’s six pugs — Milton, Monty, Maude, Margot, Maggie, and Molly. The winners were selected out of 475 competing pugs for world wide recognition as “Most Fashionable Pugs!”

The first place winner, Ito, a five year old fashionista, lives in Bernal Heights with his parents John Aldridge and Eric Lundgren. Rohnert Park pugs, Blue, Bono, and Roxy (pictured above), owned by Phillip and Sue Lauer, shared third place honors.

Imagine the Pawsabilities 2009!

The evening of June 27 promises the guests of the Healdsburg Animal Shelter good reasons to bark, meow and howl with joy!

The evening will truly be spectacular. Hosted by Kate MacMurray, the event will take place at MacMurray Ranch, a historic venue nine miles south of Healdsburg. The evening will include a chuckwagon BBQ dinner, barn dance and live country music. A highlight of the event will be a “Pick of the Litter” wine auction offering great wine donations from some of our most renowned vintners and winemakers.

The evening will also feature a raffle drawing for a sporty, ultra-compact Smart Car. Only 1000 tickets will be sold for this raffle, which are far better odds than the lotto! Tickets are $50 each.

Rocket Dog Rescue is having a Happy Hour fundraiser at El Rio on Friday, June 19th from 5-9 pm! Come for drinks, snacks and amazing raffle prizes all in the name of dog! Their raffle prizes include two tickets to Burning Man! $560 value!

Animal Blessings at the North Beach Fair-this weekend!

Please join us for the 55th Annual Animal Blessing Ceremony at St. Francis de Assisi Church in North Beach this weekend!  The ceremonies will be held during the popular North Beach Festival, which includes live bands, great food, crafts and vendors, and much more!

The blessings start at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday (June 13th and 14th) and all pets are welcome!

The event will honor Muttville,  the wonderful Senior Dog Rescue based in San Francisco.

Sunday, June 7 - “Walk Your Tail Off For Homeless Animals”
Vasona County Park, Los Gatos

Registration opens at 9 AM, Walk begins at 10, and Events begin at 10:30 AM; Vasona County Park (Circle Picnic Area), Los Gatos.

This 11th Annual event raises money to support the various rescue programs of the Nike Animal Rescue Foundation. There will be critter contests, raffle prizes, free BBQ, silent auction, and t-shirts awarded to participants who get $50 in pledges or more. Funds go directly to the care and placement of homeless dogs and cats. Funds will pay for veterinary care, vaccinations, and spaying/neutering for homeless pets. New World Record for Dog Marriages set last Saturday

Hundreds of dogs set a world record in Chesterfield, Missouri last Saturday. At an event called “Howling Muttrimony”, 184 dog couples walked down the aisle at the Petropolis Pet Store and Clinic. The event shattered the Guiness Book record for a mass pet wedding of 178 canine couples.

The fun event was part of a pet adoption day, which was also a huge success.  More than 100 pets went home with new owners!  Amazing!

Yet Another Event for the Weekend - Paws in the Park at Santana Row, San Jose

This is a weekend for pet people all over the Bay Area!  Not only is there the SF/SPCA event at Matrix Fillmore tonight, but there are THREE fun filled pet events this Saturday, May 30th.  In addition to the Dog Days of Hollister Event and the Redwood City Pet Parade (see below for more info on both events), there’s Paws in the Park at Santana Row in San Jose,

Training, Aquatic and Holistic Services for Dogs - Rex Center Open House!

All Dogs Welcome to The Rex Center’s Open House!

May is Arthritis Awareness Month, so why not look into this unique alternative to your pup’s total well being.  Warm water swimming, Reiki, massage…The Rex Center has it.  It’s like a spa or health club for canines!

Doggies of the Bay Area, bark and beg your owners to bring you to The Rex Center on June 14th from 1-5pm to see what all the fun is about! The Rex Center in Pacifica is opening its doors to all dogs and their owners for this fun filled afternoon.

The Rex Center offers safe, gentle assisted canine swims, or open swims for self motivated pups.  Professional canine swim coaches work in the water with dogs, implementing their unique program of assisted swimming and Reiki-influenced bodywork to maximize fitness. Dogs of all ages, sizes, and physical conditions can benefit from these assisted swims and gentle, safe massage and bodywork.  The Rex Center also offers dog training classes, puppy socials, puppy day care, workshops, and more.

The day will include:
* An introduction to their new state-of-the-art heated indoor pool is just for dogs
* Dog Training & Puppy class instructors available for consult
* Agility Demonstrations
* Treats vendors and non profit information booths

Come down for the day and see what canine aquatic fitness is all about. You’ll see how dogs love to get massaged (humans can even get a
chair massage!), learn about all the fun dog training and agility classes, and even learn something about Reiki bodywork.
